India successfully flight-tested the Agni-5 ballistic missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology from the Integrated Test Range at APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. The test, conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), demonstrated the missile's ability to deliver multiple payloads to separate targets across the Indian Ocean Region. MIRV technology allows a single missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads, each capable of hitting different targets independently over 5,000 km away, and includes decoy capabilities to evade ballistic missile defense systems. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists and industry partners. India joins the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France as nations possessing MIRV-capable missile systems.
