Config Raises $27M Seed Backed by Samsung, Hyundai, and LG to Build Data Layer for Robotic Foundation Models

Config, a Seoul- and San Jose-based startup building a universal data layer for robotic foundation models, raised $27M in seed funding at a $200M+ valuation led by Samsung Venture Investment with strategic participation from Hyundai's ZER01NE Ventures, LG Tech Ventures, and SKT America. Founded in January 2025 by former Meta researcher Minjoon Seo, Config has collected over 100,000 hours of human motion data — over 30x the size of the largest comparable open-source dataset. The company compares its role to TSMC: manufacturing the data that everyone else's robot AI needs.
Technical significance
The robotics industry is discovering what the generative AI industry learned in 2023: data quality and quantity are the primary bottlenecks. Config's 100,000-hour dataset is an order of magnitude larger than any alternative, and the strategic investment from Samsung, Hyundai, and LG signals that industrial robotics is approaching an inflection point.
