Coupa Acquires Rossum to Extend AI-Powered Document Processing Across Spend Management
Tags AI · Enterprise

Coupa acquired Rossum, an AI-first intelligent document processing (IDP) leader, to extend Rossum's transactional LLM-powered document automation across Coupa's entire source-to-pay platform. The acquisition builds on a partnership since 2024. Rossum's proprietary transactional large language model (T-LLM) is trained on tens of millions of documents and purpose-built for complex invoicing. Coupa claims $300 billion in customer savings over 20 years and targets the next $300 billion in five years with Rossum's technology. The acquisition was announced at Coupa Inspire 2026 in Las Vegas.
Technical significance
The acquisition reflects a broader trend of horizontal enterprise platforms acquiring specialized AI capabilities rather than building in-house. Rossum's T-LLM approach — a model purpose-built for transactional documents rather than a general-purpose LLM — demonstrates the value of domain-specific AI in enterprise workflows. Embedding IDP across the entire source-to-pay function could significantly reduce the manual processing that accounts for a large share of procurement overhead.
