Snap, YouTube, and TikTok have settled the first of over 1,200 lawsuits filed by school districts alleging that social media addiction has caused a mental health crisis and disrupted learning, costing schools significant resources. The suit was filed by the Breathitt County School District in Kentucky. Settlement terms were not disclosed. Meta, which was also named in the suit, has not settled and faces trial. The case is viewed as a bellwether for the broader litigation wave. In a related earlier case, a jury awarded a plaintiff $6 million against Google and Meta.
