Microsoft and OpenAI amended their partnership agreement, shifting Microsoft's IP license from exclusive to non-exclusive through 2032. OpenAI can now serve customers across any cloud provider including AWS and Google Cloud. Microsoft will no longer pay revenue share to OpenAI, while OpenAI's ~20% revenue share payments to Microsoft continue through 2030 but are now subject to a total cap and no longer tied to AGI milestones. Microsoft retains its ~27% stake in OpenAI's for-profit arm and remains OpenAI's 'primary cloud partner' with products shipping first on Azure. OpenAI's $250 billion Azure commitment through 2032 remains intact.
