KKR & Co. has secured more than $10 billion in commitments to launch Helix Digital Infrastructure, a standalone company that will design, build, own, and operate specialized AI infrastructure including data centers, power generation, transmission, and connectivity. Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services who oversaw AWS's growth past $100B in annual revenue, will serve as CEO and chair. The venture will partner directly with hyperscaler cloud providers. The move underscores private equity's deepening role in the AI buildout as traditional cloud providers face capacity constraints and energy bottlenecks. Analysts expect total AI infrastructure investment to surpass $1 trillion by the end of the decade. For technology executives, Helix represents a new asset class — dedicated AI infrastructure backed by institutional capital — that could reshape how enterprises provision compute capacity.
