Shinkei Systems raises funding from Founders Fund for fish-killing robot
Tags Robotics · Consumer · Enterprise

Shinkei Systems, a startup backed by Founders Fund outlier Delian Asparouhov, has built a refrigerator-sized robot called Poseidon that kills fish quickly and humanely. The company has attracted investment and interest from chefs who say the method produces better-quality fish. The robot addresses animal welfare concerns in the food industry while targeting the commercial food service market.
Technical significance
Shinkei's robot applies automation to an area of food production that has seen little technological innovation. If the humane killing method consistently improves meat quality as chefs report, it could create a new category of food-tech robotics and influence animal welfare standards in commercial fishing and aquaculture.
