ClickHouse launches PostgresBench, a reproducible benchmark for managed Postgres services
Tags Infrastructure · Enterprise · OSS

ClickHouse released PostgresBench, a public benchmark comparing managed Postgres services using the standard pgbench TPC-B-like workload. The first cohort covers five services — Postgres managed by ClickHouse, AWS Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, Neon, and Crunchy Bridge — tested at two instance sizes. The benchmark uses 256 concurrent clients over 10-minute runs at scale factors of ~100 GB and ~500 GB, reporting TPS, average latency, P95, and P99. All configuration details and results are publicly available for reproduction.
Technical significance
PostgresBench applies the transparent methodology of ClickBench to transactional workloads, giving developers a reproducible way to compare managed Postgres offerings. As the managed database market grows, independent benchmarks become essential for informed purchasing decisions and competitive pressure on providers.
