Apple confirmed that iOS 26.5, whose release candidate dropped on May 4, introduces end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging (beta) between iPhone and Android devices, built on RCS Universal Profile 3.0 and the Messaging Layer Security protocol developed with GSMA. The feature is on by default, denoted by a lock icon. It requires both parties to be on supported carriers and the latest Google Messages on Android. iOS 26.5 also introduces ads in Apple Maps and a new Pride wallpaper. Public release is expected around May 11-12.
