Apple has held early-stage exploratory discussions with Intel and Samsung about manufacturing its main device processors in the US, seeking to diversify beyond TSMC amid AI-driven chip shortages. Bloomberg reported Apple executives visited Samsung's Texas fab plant under development. No orders placed yet; discussions remain preliminary. Tim Cook cited constrained chip supply on the Q2 2026 earnings call, stating 'We have less flexibility in the supply chain than we normally would.' The shortage is driven by AI data center buildouts and strong AI-capable Mac demand. An Intel partnership could also help Apple's relationship with the Trump administration, which views Intel as a national champion.
