Google Search Adds Connected Apps (Instacart, Canva, YouTube Music) in AI Mode
Tags AI · Consumer · Enterprise

Google began rolling out connected apps in AI Mode for U.S. users on July 16, 2026, allowing secure linking of Instacart (grocery ordering), Canva (design templates), and YouTube Music (playlist creation) directly within Search. Users can add ingredients to Instacart carts, request Canva design options, or generate and save playlists without leaving the AI Mode interface. Google states more partners are coming.
Technical significance
This moves Google Search toward an action-execution layer rather than pure information retrieval. By handling transaction completion (checkout, save, play) in-context, Google captures more of the user journey and creates a defensible moat against chat-only interfaces. The OAuth-based app linking model mirrors the Gemini app integrations but surfaces them in the higher-traffic Search property. Enterprise implications: workflow automation vendors may face competition from free, built-in search actions.
