The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) released the SPEC CPU 2026 benchmark suites on May 5, 2026, the first major update since SPEC CPU 2017. The new suites reflect significant advances in CPU architectures, memory systems, and compiler technology, addressing the dramatic increase in server CPU silicon vendors and instruction set architectures in recent years. Pricing is $2,000 for new customers and $2,000 as an upgrade for existing SPEC CPU 2017 licensees who purchased before May 5, 2026. The benchmark covers servers, workstations, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, providing vendor-neutral compute-intensive performance metrics. SPEC President David Reiner stated the updated benchmark is essential for understanding true CPU performance across the expanded landscape of silicon vendors and ISAs.
