Germany's Reverion raises $175M Series B for carbon-negative power plants
Tags Hardware · Startups
Reverion, a German maker of reversible solid-oxide fuel cell power plants, closed a $175 million Series B led by Kembara, with Allianz, KfW Capital, Aurum Impact and Carbon Equity joining alongside existing backers. The company reports a world-record electrical efficiency of 74.2% measured in live customer operation, and positions its dispatchable, carbon-negative generation as a response to data-center power demand. Reverion will invest most of the capital in a new German production site that scales manufacturing capacity tenfold to 250 megawatts annually and adds up to 800 jobs. The company cites a commercial pipeline exceeding $2 billion in revenue potential, with seven power plants already in regular operation.
Technical significance
On-site dispatchable generation is one answer to the grid-interconnection bottleneck constraining AI data centers, and a 74.2% measured efficiency claim, if it holds in volume production, would be materially above conventional generators. The tenfold capacity expansion is the test of whether the technology can move from pre-series units to industrial scale.
