OpenAI Launches GPT-5.5 With Focus on Agentic Coding, Computer Use, and Multi-Step Professional Work
Tags AI · Models
OpenAI released GPT-5.5 on April 23, 2026, its third major model in five months following GPT-5.3 Codex (December 2025) and GPT-5.4 (March 2026). GPT-5.5 scores 82.7% on Terminal-Bench 2.0 and 51.7% on FrontierMath tiers 1-3, with API pricing at $5 input / $30 output per million tokens and a 1.05M context window. The model targets agentic coding, computer use, knowledge work, and multi-step tool use — OpenAI President Greg Brockman described it as understanding unclear problems and figuring out what needs to happen next with less guidance. GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.5 Pro are rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users in ChatGPT and Codex, with API access following on April 24. OpenAI evaluated the model across its full safety and preparedness frameworks with nearly 200 trusted early-access partners. The release signals OpenAI's push toward an AI 'super app' capable of autonomous multi-step professional work.
