Apple and Intel have reached a preliminary agreement for Intel to manufacture some chips for Apple devices, a deal reportedly championed by President Trump and Commerce Secretary Lutnick. Specific product types, process nodes, volumes, and timelines remain unknown. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously suggested M-class chips for Macs/iPads possibly by 2027, with iPhone chips not until 2028. Apple currently relies heavily on TSMC; CEO Tim Cook recently said iPhone sales were held back by supply constraints at TSMC. Intel's foundry operations are currently loss-making.
