AeroVironment LOCUST laser completes first counter-drone test with Pentagon and FAA

AeroVironment's LOCUST high-energy laser weapon successfully completed a first-of-its-kind counter-drone test at White Sands Missile Range in collaboration with the Pentagon and FAA, validating its safety for use in US national airspace. The test, led by Joint Interagency Task Force 401, demonstrated automated safety shut-off capabilities and ability to engage both fixed and airborne drone targets with no adverse impact on civilian aircraft. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford confirmed a thorough Safety Risk Assessment found the system does not present increased risk to the flying public.
