During its Q1 2026 earnings call, Airbnb revealed that 60% of the code its engineers produced in the quarter was written by AI. CEO Brian Chesky said AI gives the company leverage to build more software for API partners, where a task that previously required 20 engineers can now be done by one engineer supervising agents. Airbnb's customer support AI bot now handles 40% of issues without human escalation, up from 33% earlier this year. Q1 revenue grew 18% to $2.7 billion, net income rose 3.9% to $160 million, and nights booked increased 9% to 156.2 million. Chesky acknowledged that chatbot interfaces remain poorly suited for travel and e-commerce.
