Pentagon signs AI agreements with seven tech companies for classified military networks, excluding Anthropic

The Pentagon announced agreements with SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, Nvidia, Reflection AI, Microsoft, and AWS to deploy their AI tools on classified Impact Level 6 and 7 military networks for 'lawful operational use.' The deals aim to transform the US military into an 'AI-first fighting force,' covering data synthesis, warfighter decision-making, and situational awareness. Anthropic was the only major AI frontier lab excluded, following a March 2026 supply chain risk designation by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after the company refused to remove safety guardrails from its contract. The White House reopened discussions with Anthropic in recent weeks following the company's technology breakthroughs. The GenAI.mil platform already has 1.3 million DoD personnel users with hundreds of thousands of AI agents in production.
